Hold It Sister – for Trainers
Hold It Sister – The Confident Trainer’s Guide to the Female Pelvic Flaw
Training women is different from training men. Or should be. The female anatomy of the core structures is different and a skilled trainer should be aware and considerate of them. Failure to do so can result in a gym program actually creating health problems instead of solving them! Incontinence, vaginal organ prolapse and pelvic pain syndromes can all result from incorrect or excessive training activities in women.
Mary O’Dwyer, an Australian Physical Therapist, has produced a one day workshop for fitness professionals to ensure they are safe and effective when working with women. Fitness Australia has approved the course for it’s highest level of Professional Development Accreditation.
Trainers will learn -
- How to identify women at higher risk of pelvic floor dysfunction
- How to ask the awkward questions needed to develop appropriate training
- How to train women without overwhelming their pelvic floor control
- How to develop effective training programs within an individual woman’s pelvic floor limitations
- How to functionally train the abdominal muscles for postural holding
- How to integrate pelvic floor control with core training
With over thirty years of physiotherapy and a similar time in the gym, Mary understands the competing demands of a client who wants results but may not understand the costs of progressing too quickly. This workshop will improve your skills and confidence when working with female clients.
