Lumbar Rehabilitation
One of the most frustrating elements of treating lumbar spine problems is their tendency to persist and recur. Partly this is due to the structural problems associated with tissue injury combined with ongoing life stresses, and partly it is due to many clients not completing a full rehab process. Clients oftent think the back is ‘fixed’ when the pain ceases – but there is a lot more healing, conditioning and strengthening necessary to build a resilient lumbar spine.
We have two Lumbar Rehab workshops, the long version and the half day. Both are excellent, with the difference being the half day focuses on the mid to late stage rehab for those who feel confident in their early managment strategies (deep muscle recruitment, integration of core muscles, relief of pain).
Total Lumbar Rehabilitation (Full Day) – Mary O’Dwyer and Craig Allingham take you through the full gamut of lumbar spine rehab from deep muscle recruitment right through to strength and resilience as the client prepares for return to work or sport. Teaching clients how and why to move from ‘hollowing’ to ‘bracing’ is emphasised using examples you can then demonstrate to your clients.
Late Lumbar Rehab (half day) – This shorter session led by Craig only concentrates on the mid to late stage rehab and functional retraining to build resilience. The focus is on strength and conditioning for lumbar spine, gluts and hamstrings. Active bracing is again stressed and used to build resilience.
